Smart Factory in Action — Automation meets precision.

Empowering Malaysian Manufacturers for Industry 4.0

The future of Malaysian manufacturing is smarter, faster, and more connected and SIRIM is helping to make that future happen today. Through the SIRIM Smart Tech-Up Grant, local manufacturers can receive up to RM 500,000 in matching funds to modernize operations and implement cutting-edge Industry 4.0 technologies (1).

What Is the Smart Tech-Up Grant?

The grant is part of Mission 2 under the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, which aims to transform Malaysia into a nation of advanced, technology-driven industries (2). Its mission: to convert 3,000 Malaysian factories into Smart Factories by 2030, equipped with automation, data intelligence, and digital connectivity (1).

Programme Objectives

The Smart Tech-Up Grant seeks to:

  • Encourage Industry 4.0 adoption among Malaysian manufacturers.
  • Boost productivity through technology integration and smarter workflows (1).

In essence, it helps traditional manufacturers take a strategic leap into digitized, data-driven production.

Funding Structure: How It Works

Eligible companies can receive up to RM 500,000, covering 50 % of their total project cost.
Each project runs for eight months and is divided into four milestones for progress tracking (1).

  3. Categorized as MSME or mid-tier company
  4. Operating for a minimum of three years
  5. Possessing a valid business license
  6. Involved in manufacturing or manufacturing-related services (MRS) (1).

What Counts as a “Smart Factory”?

Applicants must demonstrate key Industry 4.0 capabilities, such as:

  • Cyber-physical integration
  • Real-time data connectivity
  • Data analytics and system integration

Successful participants receive Smart Factory Recognition at one of three levels — Silver, Gold, or Platinum (1, 3).

Cost Breakdown & Assessment Fees

Companies will need to co-fund 50 % of the total project cost, either via internal financing or through loans from panel banks.

Typical costs include:

  • On-Site Smart Factory Assessment (OSFA): RM 8,000 (rebateable upon approval)
